2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer game identity.
The president noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
The news mirrors a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from the president's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that relationship to continue.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It uncovered the necessity for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a renewed direction - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.
The trust in this project strengthens every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of the team. After a period of discussions, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is extensive, having dedicated the recent years developing and leading some of the most recognizable series in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue observing the development of the game in the months to ahead.
The President

"Face the rivals with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every round. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, gamble everything, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The decision is in your hands."
The game does not have an official debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as development advances.
