Assassin's Creed Reveals Surprising AoT Crossover for Holiday Season
In a surprising collaboration that defies usual forecasts, the game developer has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.
Mysterious Adventure Revealed
According to the authorized release, "A strange encounter leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original mission, where rumors of prohibited rituals and terrifying transformations echo through the shadows." The plot presents a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a hidden cult.
The adventure focuses on "strange tests and a fearsome foe" and is available to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Iconic Places and Changes
The trailer features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan redesigned as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser finishes with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the captive, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Items and Extra Material
Players who finish the quest will obtain an exclusive katana together with several artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-based outfit for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Exclusive implements
- Survey Corps mount
Newest Free Story Addition
This release also introduces the game's newest complimentary story episode, titled "The Enigma." This playful quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe introduces a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Enigma" also features a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.
Previous Japanese Animation Collaborations
This represents not the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with popular anime franchises. The series previously featured a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that unmistakably referenced the famous series One-Punch Man.
